What Is Olmesartan Medoxomil & Hydrochlorothiazide Tablets?
- Hydrochlorothiazide is a thiazide diuretic (water pill) that helps prevent your body from absorbing too much salt, which can cause fluid retention.
- Olmesartan is an angiotensin II receptor antagonist. Olmesartan keeps blood vessels from narrowing, which lowers blood pressure and improves blood flow.
- Hydrochlorothiazide and olmesartan is a combination medicine is used to treat high blood pressure (hypertension).
- Lowering blood pressure may lower your risk of a stroke or heart attack.
Hydrochlorothiazide and olmesartan may also be used for purposes not listed in this medication guide.
Uses:
- This drug is used to treat high blood pressure (hypertension).
- Lowering high blood pressure helps prevent strokes, heart attacks, and kidney problems.
How to use Olmesartan-Hydrochlorothiazide?
- Take this medication by mouth as directed by your doctor, usually once daily with or without food.
- If this medication causes you to urinate more frequently, it is best to take it at least 4 hours before your bedtime to prevent having to get up to urinate.
- If you also take certain drugs to lower your cholesterol (bile acid-binding resins such as cholestyramine, colesevelam or colestipol), take this product at least 4 hours before or at least 4 to 6 hours after these medications.
- The dosage is based on your medical condition and response to treatment.
Note:
- Use this medication regularly to get the most benefit from it.
- To help you remember, take it at the same time each day.
- It is important to continue taking this medication even if you feel well.
- Most people with high blood pressure do not feel sick.
Side Effects:
- Dizziness or lightheadedness may occur as your body adjusts to the medication.
- A very serious allergic reaction to this drug is rare.
- However, get medical help right away if you notice any symptoms of a serious allergic reaction, including rash, itching/swelling (especially of the face/tongue/throat), severe dizziness, trouble breathing.
WARNINGS:
- This drug can cause serious (possibly fatal) harm to an unborn baby if used during pregnancy.
- Therefore, it is important to prevent pregnancy while taking this medication.
- This medication is not recommended for use during pregnancy due to the risk of harm to an unborn baby.
- Consult your doctor for more details and to discuss the use of reliable forms of birth control while taking this medication.
- If you have diabetes, this product may affect your blood sugar.
- Check your blood sugar regularly as directed and share the results with your doctor. Your doctor may need to adjust your diabetes medication, exercise program, or diet.
